Weekend travel is a perfect way to get a little taste or teaser of a new city. A few days away from the routine & schedule of life to explore somewhere new. Buuut keep in mind also that a few days is never enough time to fully explore and experience a new city, so you have to learn how to make the most of three days and try to avoid the hiccups that can be a damper your weekend plans!
Honestly, any city you explore in Italy will leave you wanting more & more. More views, more wine, second helpings (and probably thirds), and most importantly more time. Siena was no different. Siena is a small town about three hours north of Rome & one and a half hours south of Florence, the perfect middle between two beautiful Italian cities: Rome & Florence. If you are catching the train from Florence to Rome or Rome to Florence, I highly recommend stopping (for a day or two) in this charming medieval town. Check out the map below to a better layout of each location.
One day someone mentioned the town of Trieste to me, I had no idea where it was or how accessible it was. But, after that, all I knew is that I would one day find a way to visit. And I did…for the afternoon! Trieste is a tiny tiny port town in Italy located in the northeast of Italy, considered the capital of that region of Italy & one of the largest seaports in that region (Austro-Hungarian Empire region). Located so close to the border of Slovenia & the Adriatic coast, the architecture found throughout Trieste has developed an Austro-Hungarian and Slovenian influence mixed with the traditional classic style of Italian Renaissance.
Italy is the heart of many food staples that I consider to bring meaning to life. Pizza, pasta, tomatoes, gelato, and pesto. Just thinking about it makes my stomach growl and is enough to convince me to pack my bags and drive to the airport. (Damn you, adulting responsibilities). If you consider yourself a #foodie, someone that loves cooking or if you are like me and enjoy the art of indulging in anything (#foodislife) then while you are galavanting around and falling in love with Italy. I recommend you find yourself in an Italian kitchen, elbow deep in dough, learning how to craft some of Italians finest cuisines.
FOOD IS LIFE (obviously) and with the world being so big and filled with such exotic flavors and cuisines it only makes sense to eat your way through every city, country, and continent. While I spent two years in Europe, I had the pleasure of being able to travel to a number of different cuisines, naturally, I made a bucket list of the foods that needed to eaten, tasted, licked, slurped, chewed or gulped throughout Europe.
A weekend is never enough time to experience a city, but sometimes life gets in the way of letting us jet off to a new country. Rome is a city that you could easily spend months in, wandering through the ancient ruins, stopping at each gelato shop to sample every flavor; but for those of us that can’t live the jet-setter lifestyle, Rome is a city that can be discovered in a weekend; crunch time.
Croatia should be one everyone’s bucket list and not just for the Yacht Parties and the perfect blue waters. Croatia is a land straight out of Game of Thrones (literally, parts were filmed there); filled with medieval history, intricate architecture, and jaw-dropping nature and scenery. If you have the time, expenses and patience the best way to see Croatia is a classic ROOOAD TRIP through the country. That is what my sister and I did during our European Summer Adventure together in 2016. There were certain parts of Croatia we opted out of and do an unforeseen incident (which resulted in taking the backroads from city to city) and instead of a famous population destination we chose to cross borders and check out a lesser known city.
Teaching, in general, can be a daunting and stressful career path. But, regardless of how your situation may be if you are ever stuck in a rut and not sure where to turn next check out these five ideas to spark some creativity.
Berlin is a quirky and happening city, with literally so much to do. It is basically impossible to find the time to do everything, see everything, and eat everything that makes Berlin, Berlin! From wandering the colorful graffitied streets, to seeing your history textbooks come alive.
A weekend in Kiev during the Easter Holiday was egg-ceptional. I highly recommend adding Kiev, Ukraine to your bucket list–find out why!
